Derrick Maxwell, PhD

CEO
Derrick Maxwell is an expert in energy storage, utilization, and generation with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University. He has over 10 years of experience spanning lithium-ion battery, supercapacitor, hydrogen fuel cell, water electrolysis, and photovoltaic technologies. Derrick spent 5 years at A123 Systems where he developed novel binders for silicon anodes, cathode active materials, and scaled their related slurry mixing and electrode coating processes through the pilot level. He is a published author and inventor on over 10 academic articles and patents. Derrick is also a graduate of the Gordon Institute of Engineering Leadership with training in engineering management and product development.

"Removing harmful solvents and forever chemicals from lithium-ion battery production around the world will reduce manufacturing costs, improve worker safety, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I'd like the future state of the world to judge the value of the technology we are developing today."

Alyssa Stavola, PhD

COO
Alyssa Stavola is a cathode scientist with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University. Her research focused on improving NMC-based cathodes for all-solid-state lithium batteries in Dr. Joshua Gallaway’s ACES lab. She developed and published an electrochemical impedance (EIS) model that characterized the electrochemical active area between the cathode active material (CAM) and the solid-state electrolyte (SSE) to better optimize the composite cathode microstructure and interfaces. After earning her doctorate, she worked as a cathode scientist at 24M Technologies before co-founding Amel Energy. She is a published author on several academic articles and pending patents. Passionate about making lithium-ion battery cathodes more sustainable and high-performing, she’s especially excited about never having to work with NMP again and would like to share this with the world.

“The cathode industry is overdue for positive change, and AmeLion™ (ah-meh-lee-on) is our solution.”
